AD domain and email server have the same name - can't get to email server!

A school has just named their domain to the same address as their email server. All attempts to get to the email server from the LAN now take them to the AD server instead.

What do you set to forward to the email server?

    Both are names are schoolname-hs.powys.sch.uk

From within the school you reach the domain controller. From the WAN you reach the exim server.

WS2003/ Slackware Linux Exim email server

    thx

A bit difficult for me to resolve as I no longer have access to an AD DC to play with

Create an A record for the domain. I wish I knew of a cheat sheet for it!

Thinking about it, surely it'd make sense to rename the email domain to something else, like mail.schoolname.sch.uk

Currently the intranet sits on the domain name space, with the mail server addressed with /webmail.

We've advised them to point to the IP for now.

Can they send and receive an e-mail? or you trying to access webmail?

if it is webmail just make an a recording pointing to the e-mail server.
