anonymous share mode
I have been trying to disable authentication on a share we have with little success. If you browse using a windows xp client (on domain but local user account) you get the auth prompt.
The server hosting the share has "everyone" as permissions for the share and ntfs. The server is 2003 sp2 and I have tried turing the various local policies to allow anonymous access but it still prompts.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Yeh cheers for that. Did that anyway.
Found the problem. The guest account MUST be enabled for any of this to work, Doh!

I was looking for a similar solution on printers (users of another domain trying to access printers), so does the guess account have to be enabled on the clients?

No for clients accessing another domains print server. That server needs guest to be enabled for anonymous mode to work I guess. Remember you can edit local security policy to disable interactive login for the guest account anyway.

The guest account works fine, and I can add printers no problem, the thing is in the print queues the jobs are all listed as Guest.
