Is there a way of preventing users deleting the 'My Documents' Icon from their desktop.
We use Ranger to control their desktops but unfortunately thats not a function Ranger provides.
Ive tried looking at the AD GPO and cant see anything.

You could disable right click and remove the recycle bin form the desktop using group policy.
Edit: just thought they could use the delete key.
Another option would be to use re-directed desktop and set security permissions to prevent deletion.

Try the gpo option Remove properties from the documents icon context menu.
Is this a manually made My Documents icon, or the one created when you right-click My Documents on the Start Menu and choose Show on Desktop? If it's the latter there's no way to prevent it being deleted, but it can be restored every logon if you use roaming profiles and implement (under Computer Configuration>Admin Templates>System>User Profiles) "Prevent roaming profile changes from propogating to the server"
Surely if they silly enough to remove the "hard" shortcut [as i like to call them], then they perhaps dont want to do any work and should be expelled?
