    Veritas System Recovery 8.0

    Anybody else tried this yet?

I put it on a new server that's hosting a new £17k Web based purchase ordering system thats being set up by a US company running SQL and all sorts.

So not being privvy to all of the internal workings and configs I thought it would be handy to have a fool proof backup system.

So I set this up using the defaults and let it back itself up for a fortnight.

I went back to it the other night and used the wizard to build a VHD from the last backup.

Well bugger me, it only worked!

In less than an hour I had a perfect copy of my last snapshot (1 hour old) up and running on a Virtual Machine.

It even comes with a bootable PE Recovery CD that will build you a new server (different hardware supported) from your last image.

Now P2V and V2P is a real bonus in a backup suite, I have used Platespin and Acronis but I have to say this seems to be incredibly simple.

Before I go and fork out the £500 license fee for this killer DR app, has anybody found any limitations using it?

It seems like it's Veritas CPS on steroids, if it works for me on my £20k E-Requester server I would think it could be the answer to many a SIMS admins prayers.

Is it £500 per server ?
Just been reading up on it and it sounds like something I would like to possibly investigate for our setup....

Thats the RRP, there is a 5 server pack with remote console and all sorts for about £2k (Buy 5 get one free I guess) whilst OEM's can buy it for about £230 if they bundle it with a server I think but the vendoe must belong to the Symantec Resellers Club.

I just downloaded the ISO's from Symantec and started a 60 day eval.
