    You just need to set/change a password for root - have a look at http://www.netadmintools.com/art90.html

    the root password is set and get in to it using mysql administraotr.

    the only problem now seems to be with joomla its self with the installer saying there is no mysql support.

    sorry to be a pain but i can' get it to work any way at all.

    Sounds like you need to put the root password in.
    Also makesure you are connecting to the DB on localhost.
    Get phpMyAdmin and login to your db with that. You can then manage DB permissions and user accounts

    Re: Problems getting joomla to work

    ahahaha

    I had that one. I solved it by doing the following:

    Open a MySQL command prompt. Type in your root password. Then type in the following:

    SET PASSWORD FOR root@localhost = OLD_PASSWORD('password');

    Subsituting the password in quotes for your root password.

    Its probably not the best method of solving the problem but it worked for me.
