Hello all,
I just came across this! I haven't seen it reported anywhere though!
Download Adobe Reader 8.1.2 MSI
Download the Security Update 1 MSI here
A critical vulnerability has been identified in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 8.1.2. This vulnerability would cause the application to crash and could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.
Adobe recommends users of Acrobat 8 and Adobe Reader install the 8.1.2 Security Update 1 patch.

30th June 2008, 03:34 PM #3 Gibbo, i'm thinking about ditching Adobe for those reasons. What is Foxit like for deploying with Group Policy? Are there any drawbacks to the software?
Cheers.

30th June 2008, 04:30 PM #4 Foxit deployed fine here. Had printing problems with earlier versions, but it's been sorted for ages.

30th June 2008, 04:37 PM #5 Are you using the Foxit creator as well Geoff?
I can see an msi for the reader and the editor but only an exe for the creator, do you have to package this yourself?
Thanks.

30th June 2008, 04:38 PM #6 I deployed the reader MSI. I do not use creator.

Have you deployed the patch yet, can it be deployed over the top of a current 8.1.2 install?
I have 8.1.2 deployed via GP.
Cheers.
I think i've answered my own question there. NO you can't, but then i can install it manually from that MSI either so i better go and have a read

Yes, at several sites, it works just fine and shows up in Add/Remove Programs. You must have Adobe Reader 8.1.2 installed.

2nd July 2008, 02:47 PM #11 I have 8.1.2 installed but it failed when i deployed this file Adobe - Adobe Reader : For Windows : Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Security Update 1 - multiple languages : Thank You without slipstreaming it into the original install.

2nd July 2008, 02:51 PM #12 I'm not sure why it's failing. It has deployed fine on workstations which already had Adobe Reader 8.1.2.
I did try it on a server which had 8.1.1 installed and it did fail (as it should).

I cocked this up on my deploy (it was late friday night and I was knacked) so I added the msi to the GPO, then for some reason, I set it to update the 8.1.2 full adobe install (wot a n00b) so this morning, some pc's had cocked up, because it removed adobe 8.1.2, then tried to install the patch afterwards, and failed. (however it only happened on a few machines...
)
My advice, just install it as well as 8.1.2, NOT as an upgrade.

14th July 2008, 11:24 PM #14 The patch does require Adobe Reader 8.1.2 installed otherwise it will fail. Alternatively, look at Adobe Reader 9. I have deployed this now and it works just as good.

20th May 2009, 03:15 PM #15 Sorry to dredge this thread up.
Did anyone ever manage to roll the file extension settings for FoxIt into a transform file so it can be deployed with active directory?
EDIT
Please ignore I posted in another thread.
Associate PDF files to Foxit through GPO?
