NTBackup fails when system state is backed up

Server 2003, backing up system state to tape and NAS gives this error -

    Code:
    Backup Status
    Operation: Backup
    Active backup destination: File
    Media name: "fulladminbackup.bkf created 13/06/2008 at 18:10"

Volume shadow copy creation: Attempt 1.
"MSDEWriter" has reported an error 0x800423f4. This is part of System State. The backup cannot continue.

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:800423f4
    Aborting Backup.

    ----------------------

The operation did not successfully complete.

    ----------------------
In addition I also get the following error in event viewer -

    Code:
Volume Shadow Copy Service: Writers will not receive events since the COM+ database is corrupted
    User Action
Contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support.
Now the only problem is I dont know the best way to fix it, anyone had this before?

I know that you've probably googled this but this is what i came accross, i'm sure i had this (or similar) problem a while ago and i seem to remember this sorting it.

Error message when you use the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to back up SQL Server 2000 database files or SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) database files: "'MSDEWriter' has reported an error 0x800423f4"

    Are you on SP2?
