    Numlock on Laptops

    Morning all,
    We've recently setup our "RMOne Laptop Trolley" BUT when you logon it switches on numlock, the numpad is classed as half of the keyboard ergo when you type you get half numbers ¬_¬ Does anyone have a quick solution to this? I've switched off numlock in the RM Management Console but this only does it for the Logon screen! So numlock comes right back again when you logon ;_;

    -Thanks in advance

    Is it set in the BIOs?

    Re: Numlock on Laptops

    Numlock status at logoff is preserved in the users registry. To change it, copy the text quoted below to a text file called something like NoNumlock.reg :

    <QUOTE BEGINS>
    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard]
    "InitialKeyboardIndicators"="0"

    <QUOTE ENDS>
    Save this in your NETLOGON share, then add a line to the logon script to add it at logon, similar to this:
    regedit /s \\<server>\Netlogon\NoNumlock.reg

    You might also find it useful to download a utility Numlock.exe, which can force the numlock status:

    Numlock.exe download page

    Enjoy.

    lol how many times you gotta say it Alan? but yes, the initial status of numlock is set in the BIOS but Windows will override it during boot.

    IanB, your solution only works after logon, to set the logon numlock status take a read of This article

    Re: Numlock on Laptops

    @Mintsoft- You're welcome.
    @E1uSiV3- I saw that article, and several others that use the same script. I think that the vbs script it recommends will toggle the numlock status. This is fine for users with numlock on, but what if there are some who have numlock already off? The utility I linked to will force the off state.
    I acknowledge that the reg key won't take effect if you have a mandatory/fixed profile, as it only changes the initial setting after logon. Though it can still be used if you're in a position to permanently modify the profile.

    lol @ alan-d

    @IanB i didnt read the article deeply enough to realise that, i wonder if you can read the state of numlock and run the script according to its current state?
