"Print Limit Pro" or "Print Managent Plus"

Has anyone compared these 2 print software`s ????

When we installed the trial of PMP6 it was showing thousands of copies on all the samsungs, also kept crashing the spooler?

Anyone had experience with Print Limit Pro ?
    Cheers

I use PMP 6.0.0.123 (from memory) and it works fine. I see no reason why the thousands of pages being counted aren't accurate. As for the spooler crashing, this would most likely be to do with a driver rather than PMP. Have you tried updating to the latest drivers?

You didn't say over what period of time the thousands of documents are being printed, but if it's a short period, it might be overloading the server (depending on the spec).

I haven't used that software that you are using. I would recommend trying pcounter we use it and never need to touch it.

Print Manager Plus here - works like a dream.

Would recommend making sure you have the latest version of PMP and the Samsung drivers. Never known it to crash the spooler. Also, 2008 edition is now out, so could try that - haven't upgraded yet though.

I was very impressed by PaperCut - Print management, quotas, control, monitoring and accounting, some very neat features that facilitate not only accounting students' print but also allow you to do things like let staff charge their prints to a particular department (defined by AD/LDAP group memberships), thus aligning it with systems/procedures your reprographics staff might be using.

I'm using Print Manager Plus 5.5, it works ok.

My only gripe was that we lost the software when the print server died. I found the original CD, but it was cracked in two.

I contacted SSI to see if I could download it, but they weren't interested - they just wanted to sell us the latest version. Luckily we had a backup.

    thx for the replies,
I have decided to go against the flow and try "Print Limit Pro"
The main reason is the support, Print man plus support via email from the USA...
PLP is UK telephone support. After speaking to both of them i dont want to touch PMP, the foriegn lady was rude and unhelpfull. PLP support were great and really helpfull.
The trail of PLP is doing everything that we need.
Only downside is it costs a little more than PLP, but that price alone is worth it for phone uk support.

Been trying to repair/replace our Lacie 2tb NAS drive for 7months now. Email Support to the USA is terrible, waiting 2-3days for a reply like "have you restarted the unit", its been back to them twice, but thats another story !...

I found PMP sales a little pushy. Despite me saying I couldn't afford to buy the software because I had *no* money, they still kept bothering me.

its the same product as papercut (mentioned above) just rebranded.

    (edit)

the support is likely to be a lot better and less of a wait time as it is all UK based and i expect they have a lot of experience in the UK market.
depends what you want from a company PLP is a good product with good support so is papercut just depends what lvl of support you think you will need and go with who will offer it. The extra money is worth the peace of mind sometimes
trial both software and see how you go (and make sure u contact support from both)

I had similar problems Gibbo and eventually asked several times to be taken off their mail list. In the end I was blunt and said PMP7 offers nothing amazing over PMP6 to justify me buying/upgrading it. The message was well received as I haven't been bothered again

    200quid saving there
Just noticed the support seems to be Austrailia ?
    Is there UK Support?
Another quick Q, can u hide the tray icon? or stop the users right clicking and Exiting? If they do this they cant see jobs being rejected etc
    Cheers

I seriously doubt you'll need support for papercut much, it's exceedingly reliable. We have had it here for over a year now, and it just works! Their support although in australia, has a UK number which is forwaded by them to australia, so you can call them at local rates, and there was someone there when I called them once with a query a while back.

Top marks from me, and if you want to try it before hand, you can install it in monitoring only mode for free

    Mike.
