    IE 7 Keeps crashing

    Hello,

I was wondering if someone could confirm whether this is my issue or a general one.

I have been told when you try and access something on Cbeebies that IE keeps crashing bringing up the Send / Don't Send dialog box.

Is this an issue with their site as it doesn't seem to happen elsewhere from what i can see.

I was wondering if someone could check.

If you go the http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/balamory/s and then click on try this. It starts to play the game. But if you click full screen, ie 7 crashes.

With the site playing flash in small windows, it suggests that the plugin is working.

Yes it does that, quite often.

The fix is to use firefox, and no, thats not a joke or me being funny, or having a dig.

IE7 = a big steaming t u r d whose only saving grace is that its better than the last MS bowel movement.

it started fairly recently. I'd say in about the last few weeks. More so in the last few days and now nearly everytime anyone tries to access certain pages. There have been no updates as I tend to build a new image once a term. I work term time only so have to work around the lessons. This term I have not done it yet.

I havent updated the flash plugin yet either as there is a new update now.

I had this recently... in the end, I discovered that upgrading the version of JRE resolved the issue (although IE7 doesn't seem 100% reliable anyway).

    ie 7 link ?

If you click on the more information link ( at least thats what I think it says ) does it give you a name of a dll that made it crash ie an xml dll or something to that extent ?

I know someone else had an issue with an xml dll and had to install the later version of it to fix ie from crashing some time ago ( prolly a different issue )

The fact that everything else works ok other than the BBC, it's clearly something specific with their website.

BBC's website is full of multimedia so I would highly recommend you update Flash, Shockwave and Java all to the latest versions. They're all available in MSI's so should be simple to deploy in your network.

There will be an update to IE7 this month (April), so I would keep this in mind too if you use WSUS to update your workstations.

Do you have any mix of Office 2003 and 2007 Components installed?
EG, Office 2003 with Outlook 2007 etc.

This has been proven to break IE

They both have different versions of common components.

See Description of the 2007 Office hotfix package: June 17, 2007

Although this refers only to MS Office versions and is normally first noticed with Sharepoint functions, similar issues have been reported with installed Adobe add ons.

    Possibly worth checking.

I have only got office 2003 installed with no 2007 components. I have yet to update flash and java to test those. I have moved over to mandatory profiles in the last day or two to ileminate whether it is a caches thing although they gave their history removed on log out. I will check each reply out one at a time and post which resolved the issue. Thanks for the responses.

I had an IE7 problem recently and reported to run inetcpl.cpl followed by advanced and reset. Sorted my problem out fine and dandy.
