software to filter web for home use
There is some great software just been released by a company called Bluecoat.
You may of heard of them. They do corporate filtering software.
They have now just released a FREE version for home users.
I've tried it and it works realy well.
I'm going to suggest we let parents know about the software if they want to add some extra protection against grooming etc by having this installed on pcs that kids might have in bedrooms etc.

There still seems to be a distinct lack (like, none) of products around to replace a broadband router with a file store / web filtering / webmail server / etc device. That's what the average home user with a bunch of assorted PCs/laptops wants - something that keeps their data nice and safely backed up, filters the Internet connection and provides always-on email that can be accessed from outside the home. I thought this is what Windows Home Server would be, but it seems to be being used as just an OS for NAS devices. When I first saw the link to this product, I thought that might at least be an add-on that did the web filtering part, but it would seem not either.

K9 Web Protection - Free Internet Filtering and Parental Controls Software Good idea, although I fear it might give parents a false sense of security. The other problem is they might well allow websites there kids will want to use such as myspace, bebo, etc which will make it useless...?
