Hi all
I think i am stuffed. On my home setup the DC that had the Domain Naming Master & Schema Master roles is dead. I cannot get the old server online at all.
How can i move these roles over to the other DC once the old one has gone please? I still have the RID Master, PDC Emulator, and Infrastructure Masters roles on a server.
Thanks

28th March 2008, 05:55 PM #2 Google is your friend.. the phrase you wanted to look for was "seize FSMO roles".
Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controller
Scroll down to "Seize FSMO roles"
This works, I have had to do this more times than I should have.

I am just going through this now.
Last week i tried to upgrade the scheme on a couple of DCs only to find that the schema master was unavailable as the server had died!
Just preparing to seize the roles using the following instructions:
Seize the schema master role: Active Directory
What exactly does this do and how? Does it just create the role on the new DC in question?
Anyone any experiences of this going horribly wrong?!?!
