It was in the document that strawberry linked to, what it was is that you had to run an update on the remote server as well as the server file was found at "c:\program files\veritas\backup execv\nt\agents\rant32\raws.msp" for future information! It was listed in the middle of a paragraph and not made clearly visible they should put it in bold or underline it or something to make it stand out more!!

Thanks everyone for your help ;-)
I was literally just about to write this

Always remember to install the updated agents with backupexec, this has caught me out a few times.

So does backup exec get a working backup without the SQL agent then, have you ever tried to restore one?

Just wondering why they would have a seperate SQL agent if the basic software does the job.

Backup exec can backup the files no problem without the agent, but you would have to stop the sql server using a batch file or scheduled task. Not reliable in my opinion.

It's SQL agent is a simple one click solution to backing up and restoring a SQL database, its really impressive.
