I need to restrict what folders get copied from the laptops to the server, Itunes for one and also my pics and while I am at it the entire my music folder.
There is a way to do this, but I am having trouble. What with the server being down to 200mb this morning (teachers with gigs of music donot help).
Cant wait to get my hands on the new server in the summer term. Going to make sure we have 500 gigs of raid 5 15k drives.

Ahhhaa, you have just awoken a dim and distant memory.
Is this all I need to do.
Laptop GPO computer settings > Admin templates > Network > Offline files > files not cached? Will this Stop files on the laptop being placed on the server? Or just thoses on the server not being cached onto the laptop?

This will only stop the files from being cached on the laptop as the network share is the source folder rather than the cache destination.
You may be able to redirect the my music folder to their local drives manually or using a script by moving them to a local folder and then changing the appropriate registry keys as the My music and My pictures are stored seporatly in the registry, could even make it into a GP object to make it easy.
A bit roundabout but it should be transparent to the users and get their rubbish off the server.

Can't be much of a problem if you're only going for a small drive to replace the current one
