Does anyone use windows catalog to distribute updates on their network. I've got wsus in one school, but no spare server software (or machine come to that in my other school) so looking for alternatives.

cant say i do, but it might be worth running wsus as a virtual server or on an old desktop if you've got one spare.

I run WSUS as a virtual server. Its a nice simple solution.
Any chance you could point me in the right direction to set up a virtual server? Thanks

install one of the above or a vmware product. The virtual hard drive is just a normal file, mount the hdd in a virtual machine and your away!. Have a little look around here for the concepts of a virtual machine, then the setup is very very easy!.

Sorry really dim today!
can you run virtual server on an xp pro machine to run wsus. I don't really want to install anything on the server and I don't have a spare server licence to setup wsus using server software.
