R2 Print Management Console Email Notification?
Anyone using this? We use the Management Console to keep an eye on the printers but trying the email notification doesn't seem to work, the test message doesn't get through either.
Tried different email addresses for recipient \ sender as well as the mail server as an IP address or hostname but no luck. Is there something I'm missing here, security permission maybe that Microsoft don't tell you about

29th January 2008, 07:19 PM #2 I know what you're referring to, however I do not use the notification tool aspect of Print Management.
Chances are though, if you're unable to send a test mail, either your SMTP information is incorrect (I wouldn't recommend using an IP), or port 25 is blocked.

Can't reply on there atm as the site doesn't load then gives page errors - I'm wondering if it's another bug in the software - the R2 print features seem plagued with em

8th May 2008, 09:41 AM #6 Basically you can set filters e.g. printers not ready, printer out of paper etc and set an email notification when any printer matches those criteria.
That bit works fine e.g. there's a printers not ready section with 4 printers in but no email. There's a Test Message button and that doesn't do anything either
The Lazy Admin : R2 - Print Management MMC
More info on the above. I wouldn't use the GPO deployment method though as Microsoft helpfully left out any way of setting the default printer!
