Fore-warned is fore-armed so they say...
I am not currently aware of too many students coming in with 2007 docs they cannot open in school.
But it is bound to happen and with no plans to u/g to 2007.
What should I have prepared.
What statement could I issue to help teachers at the front-line.
Many thanks.

15th January 2008, 02:03 PM #2 There is a compatability pack on the Microsoft website that you install on your 2003 machines and makes it so you can open and edit 2007 documents in 2003.
-
-
15th January 2008, 02:03 PM #3 If you install the Office 2007 compatability pack, Office 2003 applications can load/save in the new format.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
It's an MSI, so it's trivial to roll out to all your machines.

15th January 2008, 02:03 PM #4 We had a 2-step process -
1) Mass communication to all students that if using O2k7 at home, they must save to 2003 format.
2) Deploy Compatibilty Pack - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

15th January 2008, 02:04 PM #5 Theres should be an add-in that you can download to allow Office 2003 to read Office 2007 Documents
This is why we've decided to upgrade to Office 2007, at moment I'm starting to roll them out side-by side..

15th January 2008, 03:50 PM #14 Well, with 7-Zip on my machine it's just a case of Right click -> Extract archive.
Oh, also I forgot to mention above, if you do install the Office 2007 compatibility pack and you use WSUS for patch management make sure you enable the Office 2007 category. Some of the updates/security fixes apply to the compatibility pack.
