I'm waiting for the fun to start with this now, the school we do a joint 6th form with has apparently migrated to 2007 and whilst we have the compatibility pack I'm certain this will cause problems of some kind.

There is a compatability pack on the Microsoft website that you install on your 2003 machines and makes it so you can open and edit 2007 documents in 2003.

Does anyone else find that it tends not to open any 2007 files though? We have the latest version here and we get 'unable to open' messages every time we use it.

A few of the kids, and staff, must have gotten new computers at home as more and more are wondering why *.docx doesnt work at the moment..

Deploy OpenOffice alongside MS Office 2003.

Personally I'd use OpenOffice - works on just about anything and, you can give a CD to the pupils with it on. I dumped M$ a long time ago and went a combination of Mac and Ubuntu - never looked back.....

Neoffice reads and writes M$ files in .docx format.....

rubbish, OOo can use real databases like MySQL Oracle or even use ODBC connections.

We use OpenOffice here, when people send in 2007 files they open with OpenOffice.
