I've got a folder which seems to have lost all its security descriptors and I can't seem to work out hwo to get back into it. It won't let me delete it, move it or even get into the properties. Its not encrypted either.
I've tried CACLS, SET-ACL, GET-ACL, take ownership but it always says access denied.
Anyone got any suggestion which doesn't involve rebooting with a Linux CD?

If it's on a PC, have you tried using the parent folder to reset the permissions. i.e. Go to the advanced security settings on the parent folder and use the replace permissions on all child objects.
if it's on a server and you use Windows NT Backup, you could try restoring the folder, as NT Backup restores permissions.

On the server and I don't use NT Backup, tried a restore using Retrospect over the top and it says access denied.

10th January 2008, 10:10 AM #4 What else is in the parent folder? Would you be able to run the Replace Permissions on there without making too many changes to the other permissions you have set on those other files/folders?
