Problems with Active Desktop wallpaper not appearing.
I have set the Active Desktop wallpaper to show what picture i choose. I have checked all the GPO settings and also all the permissions on the network folder that contains the images and everything is ok. What is really weird is that the picture appears on the desktop during the log on process and also the applying security settings but as soon as this finishes the image disappears and they just get a blue background and a little white square in the corner of the screen with a red cross in it.
The staff have roaming profiles and i have re-created of one of the users to rule that out as well.
Any ideas?

8th January 2008, 10:31 AM #2 Try refreshing the desktop, if that works then you need a desktop refresh prog. But more likely you need to have the desktop jpg held locally on the client PC.

8th January 2008, 10:56 AM #4 I have the oposite problem, but i've never really looked at trying to solve it.
The default blue background is displayed on the ctrl+alt+del screen, but then as the student it logging in the wallpaper that is set for the local administrator is displayed then the wallpaper that is set in the policy is applied after this... rather strange

31st January 2008, 04:32 PM #7 I still can't seem to get this to work. The desktop is sett to strech the picture as some staff have widescreen laptops and some don't.

1st February 2008, 08:05 AM #8 Try this in your login script (probably last)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,UpdatePerUserSystemParameters
This will refresh the desktop as per
http://www.dx21.com/SCRIPTING/RUNDLL...X|ao-AND|WXP-1
Hope this helps!

1st February 2008, 01:47 PM #10 We had this too I have created a VBS script that can change the desktop being showed per day e.g. Mon pic one and tue pic 2. It gets the images from the sysvol or any other network location you want.
If any one wants a copy of it let me know and ill post it up.

1st February 2008, 11:04 PM #11 How do people deal with the annoyance that the kids are doing now in that they are going eew system wall paper and then managing to set wallpaper which appears when there profile has loaded and shows at the applying personal settings, saving personal settings and when there workstation is locked rather than my wallpaper. Some of them are a bit iffy in terms of there content. We use roaming profiles if that helps.

1st February 2008, 11:14 PM #12 Do you use group policy to set a users wallpaper?

In the Active Desktop Wallpaper fill in a local or UNC link to a wallpaper you want to enforce and select its composition. Ensure the users have read access to the wallpaper.

5th February 2008, 11:52 AM #13 Had this one before - this fixed it for me
In the policy where you are setting the wall paper
also set Computer config\admin temp\system\froup policy\user group policy loopback\
this will apply settings in the user section to the computer, liek the desktop wall paper
