Upgrading my Ex 2003 server this holidays whilst everyones away marking.
Migrated all mailboxes today but I messed up as GFI was still running and it didn't delete the mailboxes on the old server.
Thennnnnnn my raid has failed so I've had to leave the it rebuilding a failed drive.
And I haven't even installed 2007 yet
Don't ya just love IT.

OWA in exchange 2007 is very similar to outlook 2007, its hard to tell the difference except the speed obviously.
Main draw for me is the ability to browse the users documents from within OWA using its security.

You can also view the entire address book in OWA2007 from the word go rather than having to search like you did in 2003 which fine is good for mobile PDA viewing so you don't have to load up 1000000 users, but local OWA use, which is what I use it for really its a PITA selecting your little monsters for teaching, I do actually feel a bit sorry for the teachers there, but hey ho
So thats an Instant 2007 love that I have .

Yup thats true, then again I did only just hack the MS VM demo unit to tadge onto my spare, pre-configured email setup (I keep a domain and IP setup ready for such email system evaluations) so didn't really test it that much just played with it really, but there are a good few many new bits to it.

Our exchange 2007 upgrade is on the cards for Easter or Summer (undecided yet!) mainly to take advantage of the extra features in OWA too. Seems like a lot of people are liking the new interface, particularly the file access feature!

Yeah, must admit thats one of the things I like, the interface is very much now identical to Outlook 2007 so its on the To Do list as well

Bit of advice in this upgrade.
Remove GFI when you upgrade. I moved my mailboxes yesterday and came in this morning and my mailbox has around 100,000 emails from GFI mailsecurity which seems to be in a never ending loop.
Think it messed up the mailbox move also as theres duplicate boxes, not too much of an issue as you just remove the exchnage attribute, purge the box on the old server and reconnect the correct box on the new server.
Outlook still hasn't caught up with the GFI messages, I uninstalled it an hour ago and mail is still coming in, when I try and open it (they are coming through at about 10 a second) the times of the GFI messages are in the middle of the night.
Only stumbling block up to now is a user who's mailbox is too big for the new server.... no fat jokes.

How big is too big?? We have lots of mailboxes which are several gigabytes, they're all SLT members so difficult to tell them to slim down a bit!

Couldn't tell, sure it says somewhere but she had lots of 2Mb funny vids in her mailbox.
I had to use the Exchange Management Shell to move it with the -preservemailboxsizelimit command and it eventually moved successfully.
Seems to be working now... woooooohooooo.
Managed to get GFI working too.
Just a few bits to sort out like OWA access externally and allowing home folder access automatically.
Now to run a complete backup
