Prodesktop install
Hello, I'm trying to install Prodesktop V8 across the network using policies but the msi that is provided still requires some user intervention during install. I've tried using Advanced Installer (MSI creation app) but can't get my head around it! It sort of works but still requires user inputs.
What do you people out there do?
Thanks all!
Andy

I have been unable to deploy it successfully with ghost or wininstall. I'm sure it keels over without admin privileges somewhere. Either that or the 3d accel doesn't work with the built in graphics card. Could always be a reg key placed in a stupid area of the registry.

I never managed to get it to deploy it properly, so just installed it on my server, and put a shortcut to the program on the workstations, it worked fine for me

Re: Prodesktop install
the MSI might have a custom dialog, causing the install to halt, i had a similar issue with one of the Serif packages, afaik theres nothing you can do about it either :grrr:

Re: Prodesktop install
Thanks all, Why oh why can't software people write code that works. Apparently this software has been recommended by county!!!!
I'll try V2000 as well as running it from the server. Frankly I think it is a waste of time as the PCs in the tech block are crap!
Anyway, enough gripeing and moaning,
Cheers

We use version 2000i2 which installed like a dream using the MSI supplied with it. I've not had any complaints about it being the 'wrong' version so I can only assume that it is the right one

Re: Prodesktop install
Prodesktop 8 SP1 here. (help about shows: Datecode 2003330, build 1061)
Installed as part of the workstation image.
We found it did crash pretty much every time with the built in graphics cards (intel chipset, fujitsu siemens scenic p), slight change to the mandatory profile (or reg hack on login if you like) fixed the problem.
Tools->Options->Performance->_Tick_ 'Disable graphics hardware acceleration (slower)'

EXACTLY the same problem here (different onboard graphics to yours).. it'd hang at 100% CPU every time we ran it after installing the newer version until we made that setting change. Very annoying and took a fair old while to figure out.

@Frazer & sahmeepee: How did you tick the setting if the program didn't run?

Hehe Was trying to get 2000i2 to work again last week oddly enough.
For some reason [probably my fault somewhere] after installing it, I have to open it and close it otherwise, non-administrator users cant open it.
Anyone got any good tips that work with ProDesktop?
The tech staff want to use v8 but apparently, even if you get it to work, theres a part of it that doesnt work still.
Of course, he told me about it ages ago so I got rid of it and tried putting 2000i2 back again lol
Any thoughts?

V8 is fine so long as you remember to open it, and you extrude something then it works fine.
