    intermitant logon issue

only get this with students but on occasion a kid wont be able to logon with the error "could not load your roaming profile" with a directry going to a temporary internet file (something along those lines)

the only way to fix it is to logon as an admin and delete all the locally stored profiles (or just the specific one of the person trying to logon anyway) is there a fix for this? or a way to make the profiles remove themselves without having to install something on all the machines

    cheers

Here is a script that runs on machine startup that clears the profiles. I would like to take credit for it but cant this is one of Bossman's scripts

You can delete these via a startup script, there is also an option in group policy that supposedly does this but I have had limited success with it.

There is a thread about the scripted variety here http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?nam...wtopic&p=54142

There's also a Microsoft tool for removing profiles called DelProf.

I'm working a my own script, but it's not ready yet.

that script appears to have worked a treat, thank you very much MrHappy, only downside though is the fact we dont often reboot the machines in one block, there left on almost 24/7 but at least we can jsut tell the teacher to restart the kids machine from now on rather than having to remote into the particular machine and clear the cache of profiles

you could always set the computers to shutdown/restart at daft o'clock then the profiles are cleared for next day. Glad it worked for you

may i ask why the computers are left on almost 24/7? seems a like waste of energy/money :|

its because of the way ours rooms are setup, we dont have pcs in cases, the motherboards/powersupply/harddrive are all mounted onto an wooden board which are in small cupboards with locks (one cupboard per 2 pcs split in the middle) ill take a picture and show you an example soon

In our older 2 IT rooms we have a Switch to turn all the PCs off in one go, but the only way to do that with the 3 new ones in the new building would be to flick the trip switches (which isnt advised at all!) perhaps ill have a chat with some people and talk about getting the same thing setup in our new building as we have with the old IT rooms

good thing is we dont have to worry about heat as when the rooms get too hot the windows open automaticly along with the roof windows

little problem with this script, we've had a few teachers plug there laptops in and its deleted there local profiles (we let teachers have local admin to there laptops for home, bad idea probably but its beyond our control now)

anything id add into the exceptions list to stop it remove anything created on the local machine rather than removing everything?

mr bios, you can set the pc's so that it only shows the shut down box not the log off box.

The existing scirpt you can set in gpo as a system startup file, then set it to the ou the machines in that room are in.

    Re: intermitant logon issue

Hi, I guess you would have to add there account names the the exceptions list. I dont have that problem here, because every laptop i hand out to staff get a generic teacher account.

Would love to see picture of pcs on boards.

    Re: intermitant logon issue

ah of course, thank strawberry i was being an idiot with where i put it

we have them set to log off only with shut down removed, otherwise we get loads of kids shutting down after the first lesson and we spend the day running around turning them back on again

this is the best example of one of the boards ive got for now:
    http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/5409/boardsxj5.jpg

thats just mounted on the wall in our office as a test machine, in a classroom though there sat inside a small cuboard with a door and lock which sits between the desk and the floor and is split down the middle to have a pc on either side
