Changing Permissions on Student Home Areas en masse.

    Morning Guys,

Our permissions on our Student Home Areas are a bit of a mess. Only the students have access to them! Does anyone know of a nice easy way to add additional people to the permissions to all the sub-folders while keeping the correct student permissions on the folders intact? I'm assuming this is going to be a Power Shell solution?

This does the trick - save it as a batch in the root share folder (it needs your folder structure to be \\server\share\Username)

    Code:
    for /d %%1 in (*) do echo y|cacls %%1 /t /g %%1:F administrators:f "domain admins":f system:f "teaching staff":r
Essentially it looks at the folder name and then tries to assign permission to a user of that name with full control (the :f) then administrators full control, Domain Admins full control, System full Control and teaching staff Read only (the:r)

NTFSFix does this in a nice GUI. Make sure that you have your home folder redirection permissions so they don't give exclusive access (just a tick box on the settings dialog).
