I need to get into an XP machine

    Hey Guys

Anyone got some tricks up their sleeve? I have been given a laptop by one of the members of staff (it's old and battered) but want to use it for a Risevision screen. Classic case scenario she has forgotten her password and I can get in as she was the only local administrator. Does anyone have a technique of finding out her password?

    It's an XP machine?

    Cheers Guys
    Alex

As far as I know, you can't find the password... But if you have a recovery disk, I can help. [Once this thread moves somewhere non-googlable.]

OPH Crack software should be able to do it, I've used it in the past with good results.

The disc drive on the laptop is knackered and before you ask I have tried with a USB disk drive which also doesn't work as it doesn't show up in the BIOS to boot from! Any other magic way you may be able to help ? Otherwise the computer will have to be chucked away, if you think of anything please PM me and let me know!

Yes but that also means trawling for drivers all day as the computer is easily around 12 years old, so it could be a bit of a nightmare to find the correct drivers :/

You really don't want an XP machine on your network anymore - if you can't reinstall as another OS, bin it.

I suppose you have already tried hitting Ctrl Alt Delete several times at the log-in screen, (sometimes there is a system admin account with no password set)? It must be really old if it cannot boot from USB so an external DVD drive is no help :-(

What about a regular USB drive with the contents of the XP disk?
