When I've tackled the thorny issue of pupils getting access to their personal folders from home over the years, people always tell me that I need to use moodle. Well, I've bitten the bullet and built up a moodle box yesterday, it's on a server 2003 machine and has Apache, MySQL and PHP installed using the appropriately named EasyPHP.
From first looks, moodle looks very similar to sharepoint, which is a bit of a bummer as that's of no use in allowing folder access, it merely allows you to upload certain documents to the webspace and then download them again at home - or vice/versa. Can someone talk me through what I need to do to allow access to their personal folders?

I think that you have been mis-informed, Moodle will not magically give access to files and folders on your network - you will simply be able to upload files to share.
I think you need to maybe look into the solution that Ashok (IIRC) was looking into before Christmas.
Cheers, Ric, I suspected as much. Which thread was that one?

@eejit: Check out http://edugeek.net/index.php?name=Fo...ewtopic&t=1288 (sorry was in a rush to get to work this morning when posted that)
Excellent, thanks for that Ric.
