We have a small number of software packages installed on a server and shared over the network by placing a shortcut of the executable in a shared folder. I'm sure this is not the best way to share software, but it usually works just fine.
However, there have been a few occasions recently when users are seemingly unable to access the software over the wireless network - the shortcut appears as a deadlink and returns an error along the lines of "The drive or network connection that the shortcut refers to is unavailable". If I plug an ethernet cable into the device and refresh the page the icons reappear and the software loads as per normal.
This would kind of suggest the problem was related to the wireless network, but 99% of devices are able to load the software correctly.
Any advice on this would be welcome.
When it happens again get the IP info from the machine and also try to ping the server by IP and name. Look at DNS is your shortcut setup to a server name or IP?
