Small Basic Problems Winows 7 CC4

    Hi All

We are currently having problems getting Microsoft Small Basic working on CC4 machines.

Our ICT Department are adding programming languages such as Python, Alice, Kodo and Small Basic to their curriculam.

I have followed the steps outlined in the RM Small Basic blue print (http://www.rm.com/Support/GeneralDow...N3045943&nav=0)
Package has installed fine on the server, and allocates fine.

Upon running Small Basic logged on as systemadmin works fine, and is fully functional.

When logged on as a Student/Teacher account we have a few issues. The program runs fine, and are able to write code. As soon as they hit the run (f5) to test the code, it keeps coming up with an error message that the program has stopped responding. (Please see attached screen shot)

I don't know if anyone else is having the same issues, and have found any work arounds

Hi, We had the same issue and had to change Station Security level to "none" in the RMMC computer properties. Not ideal but it solved the problem for us.

This is usually down to the user not having permissions to run an .exe from wherever the SmallBasic file is saved. If they haven't saved at all, then it will be trying to run from the user's temp folder, which is often locked down by GP Software Restrictions even on non-RM networks due to malware often running from that location.

It's also common for RM systems to block .exe files from running from all sorts of places, sometimes including the user's home folder.

When SmallBasic compiles its exe it needs to run from %userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp which is prevented by policy in CC4. It's not a good idea to have this open as it will allow students to download executables and zip files from the web and run from there. Create a folder on RMShared Documents, set the appropriate permissions for your programming students and run the exe from there.

Failing that use a VM ands let them run all their programming stuff from there.

Also ... have a look here
