What about proxy settings and the like, is it set to automatically detect or anything?

have you tried typing this in run:

    regsvr32 actxprxy.dll

and it does something... which might fix it!

    Re: irritating IE issue

It sounds like a problem we had with authenticating to the proxy server. In IE6 some people/PCs occasionally get an error:

Error Code: 403 Forbidden. The ISA Server denied the specified Uniform Resource Locator (URL). (12202)

on the first page they load up. When they refresh the page it works. Firefox doesn't have the problem. From the monitoring I did on our ISA server I think it was caused by the page initially being requested directly, then subsequently being requested properly i.e. via the proxy server.

You may be able to do some troubleshooting from your proxy server end.
