Can someone point me toward an answer please. I have a teacher who upuntil now has exclusively used her not too old MSI notebook PC to work on when logged onto the domain. She now wants to use it away from the network but has not been able to log on. No one seems to have any idea what the user name and password are from the time the machine was newly delivered. Any suggestions please?

You could try using the local administrator acount. This may have been left with a blank password if you are lucky. Once you get in you can then crreate a new local account.

You say it was being used on the domain, is this still the case?
If so, couldnt you logon as the domain administrator and create a new account (or reset and old one) on the laptop?
I might be wrong of course, but I'm sure this has worked for me previously

Reseting the local Administrator password is trivial even if it is not domain joined. This piece of software http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ boots from a cd or disk and will reset any local account password to blank for you. Takes about 5 minutes to do including boot time.
Just don't let any students get a hold of it unless you have locked out cd boot in the bios.

Note, with that software, if you have Encryption enabled for that account, everything owned by it will be unreadable after the password is reset.
