I has a problem.
When a kiddie opens up a photostory projet that he has previously saved he gets an Access Denied Error. This does not affect all kids only a dozen or so.
So far I have Made sure the application is exempt from within AD. I have deleted his profile and wiped it from the PC. I have tried opening it from a different login (no probs) but the login has the problem opening the file from what ever PC you log in on.
I have not been able to google the problem and after 4 hours and being asked every hour if its fixed yet, I am more than a little sick of it.![]()
Any ideas? I willl be digging out the regmon and filemon next.
You could try resetting the security rights over the file, incase they have bceome screwed up.
I have tried the security rights, but it even happens when I create a new project, save it and reopen it.
This problem only affects 6 kiddies.![]()
Silly question but it always is something daft ain't it..
Have you checked the childrens accounts in question are a part of the group(s) that need to access the space?
You could try running FileMon to see what files may be causing you the Access Denied error message
Vote 2 for filemon, its the only way to resolve this really.
1. gain access to cmd, runas /user:admin cmd
2. filemon
fooby
Hello. i am having the same problem. did filemon help you in anyway?
and did you find out what the problem was and how to fix it?
I am looking into it again,
Current thinking is that it might be something to do with windows\temp folder.
file mon is next. But its a bit of a strange one since its limited to 6 kids.
Oh and deleting profile and user area including local cached one does not help![]()
Photostory uses Movie Maker to work doesn't it. MovieMaker is littered with problems like this. I find it doesn't like moving PCs mid project - could that be the problem?
sorry i didn't mention its not 6 users, it is only 1 user. The file is on a shard folder on the server, but if i open the file on any computer around school with the same user (ict) and get the same error. I can log in under a different user and access the file on the same pc or any and it will run. also i can copy the file from the shard drive and paste it onto the desktop and it will open and work fine from there. i also have tried a new profile but still get the message.
thanks if anyone can help
Nailed it with Filemon.
It seems that instead of going straight to the my docs folder share on the server which has the corect permissions, it goes through every folder in the entire structure.
So mine is organised >students home area (share) > userarea > entry year > student name.
The userarea folder within the share did not have access defined for students, there has never been a need and it stops the year 6's being curious.
So photo story was checking each folder through the path to see if it had permission to access that folder, access to students home area? ok. Access to studentshome area/ user area? Nope, throw hissy fit.
Instead of going to the complete path in one hit, which would be fine as the security setting are correct, it goes through this awkward multiple checking route.I have only had one other program do this, the question has to be why do it this way?I hope this makes sense.
And no I have no idea why it only affected 6 students![]()

THANKS A LOT
did the trick![]()
thanx for all ya help
Another thing that just came up about this, and I ma not sure if its due to a recent update. If the run command is disabled then you cannot type in UNC paths to the servers. This also upsets PhotoStory, its a shame such a good program is so damn buggy.
What the....
Pretty much as above, you need permissions set so that you can see every folder on the way to the kiddies home area, you need access to the run command for some strange reason, and you need to be able to browse the network.
Pile of poo really.
