Hello guys,
can anyone let me know if Windows desktop search can be 'controlled' using group policy? I want to disable indexing as it seems to be hogging CPU (even though MS says it doesn't).
Cheers

Interesting, M$ take the network down again! :P
Does configuring via GPO to disable the Windows Desktop Search work?
Haven’t got the problem myself as yet!

Not sure if it can be controlled, but it can be removed using a Startup script. Probably the most useless update MS have created in a while!
I did install it on one machine to have a look and it does dramatically reduce speed in general.Code:@ECHO OFF IF exist c:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB917013$\spuninst\spuninst.exe c:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB917013$\spuninst\spuninst.exe /quiet

A quick google revealed if you run:
This will extract the adm files you're looking for. As to what policies are available I'm sure you'll find outCode:WindowsDesktopSearch-KB917013-V301-XP-x86-enu.exe /extract![]()
was gonna say geoff!links and scripts over on that link folks
