We are using the new Promethean Software and Drivers and are in the middle of updating. We remove all of the old software and then install the new.
One of our boards keeps dropping out after you reboot the computer. It is USB connected using XP Pro SP2. It goes into a constant loop trying to load the driver and the board and pen, But it never does. If I remove all of the software and reinstall it, it works until you reboot.
Any ideas? :?
have you uninstalled the driver. unplugged the board, rebooted, reinstalled the board driver, restarted and connected the board to the machine again?
Yes, uninstalled the whole package. Unplugged the board while reinstalling, plugged back in after reboot. It picks up board and works until you reboot the computer
Have you tried a differnet USB lead? had a similar problem when with a machine that could not finish installing the drivers but would detect that something was connected. I think it has something to do with the length of the USB cable used. Have swapped it with another smaller cable and it works ok. Although thinking about it, you would have noticed it before if your doing an unpdate.ops:
crap just installed the latest driver on my machine. there is alot more in the Human intercace section on device manager.
is any of the fllowing got a ! or red cross or grayed out
Promethean serial Activboard
Promethean Serial ActivPen
Promethean Serail Board Driver
is any of them are grayed out etc right click the driver and click update driver select No, not this time radio button click Next, select Install from a list of specific location (Advanced) click next, select Don't search, I will choose the driver to install, click next and then select the promethean driver. Install or next. restart the machine and see what happens.
Thats all i can think of.
I always try to stick with using the serial lead. Usb IS UNRELAIBLE (oops caps sorry)
I tried turning off manual start up and that seemed to work, although it being USB it is supposed to not need to be connected manually.
I will keep the USB cable length in mind as the Promethean guys did set up some USB and some serial.
Sound silly but have you called prometheans support number. The last time i supported one of these (about a year ago) it was pretty good. Resolved my issue promptly and was only on hold for about 2 minutes.

I endorse what Mr Happy says - it is usually a driver problem and I have done what he says many many times.
I don't like USB either and avoid it whenever I can

I find if you stick with latest firmware and drivers you have very few problems and we have 40 throughout the school.
Also agree with Witch that you should log a call with Promethean they are usually very good
Actually, those guys were just here and they told us to udate all of our software. We seemed to have got it working now, but we'll see.

We had a Promethean tech come to replace a faulty board (not software related) and he told me since v4 of the driver USB has less issues then serial.Originally Posted by MrHappy
We went down the serial path and some boards drop off and no longer responde until your reboot the PC. Our current theory is that the board it dropping the serial link or the driver is crashing resulting in the serial port being locked "open" until you reboot.
Promethean and the word problem always seem to come in the same sentence in our school.
