I've been asked to investigate whether or not its posible to customize the win xp logon screen so that it could display the school logo.
Has any one come accross this and how to go about it?

I went about doing this a while ago; see attached the resources and instructions to complete the customization of the CTRL, ALT + DEL dialog.

That procedure violates your Windows EULA, and as Geoff will say, "cause your licence to explode". Use pGINA instead.
Hi,
Various options have been discussed in the following threads.....
Windows XP Login Screen
New logon screen
Logon Prompt Picture Change... (GINA?)
Iain.
we edited our BGinfo files here.... I am sure we did it via a GPO, so will find out and let you know.

We place a .bmp file onto the c:\ and alter a registry entry to point to that file.
It doesn't change the actual login dialog but puts a wallpaper behind it.
I do it that way too. \HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\Originally Posted by jcs808
Modify the Wallpaper key to c:\SchoolLogo.bmp .
I send the SchoolLogo.bmp file to the client computers remotely using the freeware program Purgos.

Hey Oakie Purgos looks good! Have you encountered any issues using it? Anybody else got experience of using it - reliability, network traffic issues, etc?
IMO I think stuff like this is best left alone.. sorry to sound negative.
I use it to push out .msi installs to lab computers no problems.Originally Posted by tech_guy
I have used it to do .exe installs where there is some kind of silent or unattended switch support without problems.
I was using it this week to push out 100MB video files to 36 hosts desktops simultaneously across our 10/100 lan. No problems.
There is a specific situation that crashes Purgos.. I can't recall exactly when it is.. but it isn't a terribly serious problem, just an annoying glitch during some aspect of configuration that is immediately cured on a restart of Purgos.
Some issues :
Check your software firewall on XP pro clients, if it's on, you'll need to make exceptions for purgos.
Generally if you can access a machine using the administrative share then you'll be good to go. Example if you can access a machine in explorer like this: \\lab-01\c$

Why not use a startup script to copy wallpaper from a shared folder on a server instead of pushing it to the C$ share for each machine?
I use the startup script / shared folder method to put wallpaper on the kid's desktops.
In this case, I guess I really just liked the instant feedback that Purgos provides that says "Files copied Successfully" or not.
