Don't scan F: ?
in the last week or so all the win98/me machines at one of my Primary Schools have suddenly(apparently) refused to read any pen drives.
they plug in without any errors but show up as an unrecognised disk/empy disk under my computer. Double clicking on the drive (in this case F:/) results in a Blue screen stating the following :-
A General sweep error has occured.
after pressing a key windows resumes with a window from Sophos Intercheck stating that:-
'The Sweep95 VxD anti-virus scanner is currently not available':-
This is followed by another intercheck window stating that:-
'An Unknown disk type has been detected in Drive F: Please sweep the disk for viruses'.
Ive never seen this error before and have never seen Sophos have problems with pen drives either.
Does anyone know a work around for this, I know that Win98/ME sucks i keep telling the primary that we need to update the OS but they just ignore me.
Thanx in advance, an increasingly grey and bold technician
Don't scan F: ?
F isnt on the scan list for sophos
how do i exclude it from the Intercheck on access scanner thingymajig?
Are you using Enterprise Console?
this is a patched up network with Various Windows OSs. the 98/me machines are using 'Sophos Remote Update v1.1.2' to get updates, not ideal i know but its what i have to work with :/
Hmm. Unfortuantly I don't have any machines running v4 left. If I remeber correctly though. Go to your programs menu and run Sophos Antivirus. When it loads up go to the on access scanning tab. You can configure exclusions from the menu items.
Is it even supported any more?
It is in Lancs!
Its basically the old v3.xx version.
Heh, I had to look at Octobers disk. I wonder if the SWEEPUPD password has changed or corrupted?
you mean the password for http://www.sophosremote.lancsngfl.ac.uk ?
Had no luck getting sophos to play with pen drives on ME/98, Im now working on getting the school in question to upgrade their machines.
Sophos are ending their support for 3.xx versions February 2006. All schools should have been upgraded to Sophos 4 95/98/ME and Sophos 5 NT/2000/XP/2003.
That retirement date been extended to 28 Feb 2007. I wonder if they are having difficulties reported with the new version?
Oops, meant to include this link to Sophos: Sophos Retirement Table
That's interesting I never knew they extended it! The new version despite using more system resources is much better than 3.xx. Enterprise Manager is fully integrated and updates all clients silently, instead of users receiving a pop-up Sophos is updating. Not exactly ideal when presenting a PowerPoint presentation lol The new version installs an icon in the Taskbar which flashes when receiving or installing updates. Because the shield is pretty much hidden, I have much less problems children breaking Sophos as there's nothing to click on!
