Ghost: Unable to establish contact with session
We have run into a problem with Ghost. We are trying to re-ghost 15 machines and only a number of them will actually connect to the ghostcast server and wait for the image to be deployed. The other will fail only the 'clone' element of the prodecure with the error:
Date : Thu Sep 27 12:05:29 2007
Error Number: (10030)
Message: Unable to establish contact with session <CURSERVERPUSH1206>.
Check that the GhostCasting Server application is ready
to accept clients!
Version: 8.0.0.984 (Oct 3 2003, Build=984)
OS Version: DOS v7.10
Command line arguments: -clone,dst=1,mode=restore,src=@MCCURSERVERpush1206 -batch -sgb -sgt
Active Switches :
AutoName
Has anyone run into this before?
Cheers
Adam.

Do they all have the exact same network cards? This would be my first thought.

Re: Ghost: Unable to establish contact with session
Are they all in the same place or located around the school? I ask this because we had some issues when first using ghost, I had to adjust some settings on some of the managed switches. We have just finished imaging about 20 optiplex 745s through a cheap 3COM officeconnect and they all worked perfectly - albeit a bit slow (we did it overnight).

They are all in a science lab connected to the stack.

How are you booting the machines? Are you using discs or a netboot server ? Did you use the ghost interface to make the boot discs?
Also what kind of session are you using? You need at least Direct Broadcast or Multicast if your switches support it.
On top of all that if your ghost server runs mcafee enterprise antivirus that will prevent ghost client from joining your session as it blocks ports like 6666-6667 which are needed for ghost session. Though that will prevent all clients from joining and not just a few.
cheers

We had the same problem with a bunch of Dell Optiplex 755 machines. We downloaded the driver off line and reinstalled the network driver and then we were able to connect to a ghost session. Hope that helps.

22nd September 2009, 04:14 PM #9 would these dells have intel gigabit nic in by any chance as ve found they can be iffy depending on the switches they are plugged into. had a load that wouldnt do gpo processing prelogon until i flashed the switch to a newer rom level (hp something or other) or limited them to 100mb 1/2 duplex (may even of had to knock em back to 10mb)
