A couple of years ago before RIS we used Ghost with ysprep to copy drive images. We now always use RIS.
But i could do with a ghost boot disk to do a one off image i am playing with here and i can't find our ghost cd.
I have a boot disk but it has become corrupt.
Any chance some one can email me the neceesary files to put on a new floppy please.

Install the Ghost console and you can use the Ghsot Boot Wizard to build boot disks. You can even make a boot disk that works via RIS - very useful.

Well, instead of booting from a floppy, you can boot the PC from the network to run Ghost. Not as neat as if you had the Ghost client on all your PCs, but handy for ad-hoc builds and uploads.
If you are familiar with RIS, you'll know that you can create multiple install builds and select the required build when booting the PC from network. The Ghost Boot Wizard will install an additional build which becomes available on the build selection screen.
It's actually possible to integrate just about any boot disk/cd with RIS, but the Ghost Boot Wizard makes it nice and easy for Ghost disks.

When I started here the company who installed our netowrk had left Ghostserver and build disks for each computer.
The server is really nice but it wasn't a legal copy and after looking into it I found it cost silly money to buy.
Now I just use DVD/RW with ghost on and a command line to start the process when the DVD boots.
The RIS thing sounds good. I used ghost when I had Windows 2000 Server but it didn't like XP and I lost patience with it. I haven't tried it with 2003 server so I might have a look at it.
Do you still have to put the GUID code in when you make a computer account.? I found that bit a pain in the arse as the BIOS didn't show up the GUID, it only showed up for 5 seconds when you tried a boot over lan.

You only need the GUID for 'managed computers' - if you simply want the ability to press F12 and select from the menu, you don't need to do anything (other than have RIS set up
)

Please remember this about ghost (taken from symantec site)
Each machine that is cloned with Ghost needs a license
Once you've licensed a machine, you can clone it as many times as you want
If a PC is permanently decommissioned, you may reassign the
license to another PC
Each machine that has been cloned with Ghost contains a
fingerprint that is traceable during audits
