Is it possible to log a user in automatically to a machine on a domain? WE have a room booking machine sat in the staff room and i dont really want to log it in every morning with the same username and password, it would be nice that once you turn it on, it will log its self in.

Re: Auto Login with a windows account
This is very easy to do, Windows NT/2000/XP includes a feature that allows you to configure the computer to automatically logon to the network, bypassing the Win Logon dialog box.
To enable this function you need to add several new values to the key below.
Add a new string value named 'DefaultUserName' and set it to the username you wish to automatically logon as.
Add a new string value named 'DefaultPassword' and set this to the password for the user entered above.
Add a new string value named 'DefaultDomainName' and set this to the domain of the user.
Add a new string value named 'AutoAdminLogon' and set it to either '1' to enable auto logon or '0' to disable it.
For Windows 2000 the additional ForceAutoLogon setting must be enabled to stop the tweak from resetting on reboot.
Exit and restart, Windows should not ask for a password and automatically show the desktop of the user.
Note: The password is stored in registry, which means anyone who has access to the machine has access to the password.
Note: You can bypass this function by holding down the SHIFT key during the boot or logoff process.
Note: It is also important to note that if the DontDisplayLastUserName value is enabled, the auto logon feature does not function.
Registry Settings:
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Value Name: AutoAdminLogon
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value Data: (0=disable, 1=enable)
Good luck!

TweakUI will do this for you. All of my training rooms logon automatically with this.

Re: Auto Login with a windows account
I've a script running at startup to load the presentation on our display screens, is this something TweakUI can be modified to do?
Or, are you using a script in the same way as I do?
Cheers,

Re: Auto Login with a windows account
I am not sure if tweak will run a script but the people behind reception need to amend the display on a daily basis so login and autorun isn't required..
Cheers

The way I setup auto logon for display machines etc is to use
Start -> Run
then type in
Control userpasswords2
this brings up a control panel app, and just uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password to logon" box. Once you click ok it will prompt you for the default username/password/domain to use.

Some excellent suggestions already, however in addition I would also set the account so its password cannot be changed and never expires in Active Directory. This is in case you have domain policies set which require a user to change their password after x amount of days.
Avoids potential problems later on.
