Has anyone any experience of the 3 bits ALL working together?

We are just about to launch in to a new school year and the bosses have decided that our chosed VLE will be SIMS LG. This needs Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. Both of these are new to me and it goes without saying they cant afford a training course for me.
So
My question
Does anyone know of any cheap (free if poss) course I can get hold of that will run me through the basics and admin of Sharepoint Portal.
