Removing Tray Icons for all users
Hi ppl,
GREAT SITE this is. Helped me out BIG TIME!!!!!
ok, my question.
I create an image & in administrator on the local machine, I get all the Icons removed from the tray where the clock is on the bottom right corner.
Problem is, when a new user logs in, a profile is obviously created & the icons reappear for that user.
ANy ideas on how to get these removed for ALL users??
Help much appreciated. :thumbright:

There is a group policy that does this. Something like 'hide notification area' under windows explorer settings I believe. If no one esle can remember for sure I'll check tomorrow at work. Create a group policy with this setting, and apply it to the OU containing your users, should do it for you! One thing you may want to do if you do remove all the icons is create a shortcut to volume control on your users desktop, as that's pretty much the only tool you loose that you probably want users to have.
Cheers,
Mike.

cheers matey. One thing i forgot to mention is, is that we dont really use group policies. We use Lan ranger & apply our policies that way........which im determined to change by next summer!!

hehe!
Does that hide the printer notification too though? I seem to remember it did.
Couldn't you also achieve something editing the registry for the user profiles??

it hides all notification, which to my mway of thinking is a good thing, as those popups are annoying!
yeah, I forgot it was friday when I wrote that, the weeks in the holidays end up as a blur, never know what the day is!
We're running ranger here as well at the moment, but in the process of ditching it this holiday! Ranger is an outdated product now in my opinion. Group poilicy its self has improved significantly since ranger was released, and all the functionality of ranger can be achieved with group policy and cleverly used scripting. Makes your logon time a lot faster!
Cheers,
Mike.
