I was wondering if there were any of these about and if there were any in particular that were highly regarded?
I'd like to migrate to a vanilla network and I'm not convinced that the RM Virus Protect will work on a vanilla network. I don't particularly like the product itself either really.

No. You can silently install it and then configure it with a GPO. Technically you need SCCM for the reporting, but you can probably script a capture of the log files.
