Importing Year 7s into Active Directory

I'm trying to import the new Year 7s into AD and also create a corresponding home folder, I wonder if anyone has got a script that does this - the username format for each student will be "305FLastName". - Where "305" is constant, F= First Letter of First Name and LastName= Last name.

    Thanks for your help!

I make use of a nice program called 'AD Infinitum'. You should be able to do that in there, from a CSV file containing all the columns you want.

I'm thinking about different ways of doing it. I have come across ManageEngine - ADManager Plus, anybody know how good it is?

    I favour this one

    http://www.dovestones.com/products/A...ser_Import.asp

Does all the stuff and even sets the permissions on the home folders if you want it to.

Re: Importing Year 7s into Active Directory

I wrote an autoIT script to do this. I can just feed in a CSV file and the script will do the rest. It will also create home folders, set shares / permissions / ownership etc. It is a little slow though as it basically calls command line utilities.

The only problem is, its rather hard coded to my setup of: Year of entry; Initial; Surname. Eg. 07CLay for me, my domains / servers, etc

If I have time, I may have a play with it today and see if I can sort it out.

The Dovestone ones look good and I think I looked at them before but assumed they were american because of the pricing in us $ however they are uk based and can accept cheques.

Use somebody's script script to import your users and generate the usernames in excel using a few functions.

Re: Importing Year 7s into Active Directory

That's pretty much what I do. I downloaded a VBS script from http://www.computerperformance.co.uk which creates AD users from a spreadsheet and then I created a batch file which creates folders and sets permissions on them for their homedrives. And with Exchange, setting up multiple mailboxes is something like a five click process so that's easy enough.

Do you have multiple users doing bulk imports? I just bought a single license.

Re: Importing Year 7s into Active Directory

does anybody know of a utility similar to these, but where, when we feed it a csv of users, it can create the users under a different username?

reasoning being, we're migrating to a new setup this summer, and would like to ditch the old student username setup, but dont want to be doing this manually.

    cheers
