    Re: RIS Problem - XP on 2000 server

    I tried using a boot disk on the computer. I've also tried a network boot but it doesn't pick up on anything.

    I didn't see anywhere in the instructions with a way to define the computer as PXE compatable on the server. The closest thing that I have seen to that is the setting in GPO > user > windows > RIS to allow RIS.

    @Pear: Sorry mis-read the post!

    The SiS 900 chipset is not supported by the boot disk - hence why you get this message. If it's anything like teh SiS 900 chipsets that I've dealt with in the past, you will find the network boot is RPL rather than PXE but on some both options are present.

    If you Google a bit, you may also be able to find a bootdisk that will make your machine PXE boot.

    Re: RIS Problem - XP on 2000 server

    I found a file on my original driver disk from matsonic with .rom file which allows me to change the option from RPL to PXE. However I am unsure of how to apply the .rom, as I tried to install it as a normal .rom for the whole bios but got an error message saying the file was too small... any ideas ?

    You might want to have a look at the stuff Argon offers, I got the Remote Boot Floppy Generator from them for our old Netgear FA311's. They also do PXE on Disk for the SIS900's

    When you boot have you set ypur BIOS to boot from LAN fist? If you have that optiona and have enabled it you should see a little screen imedietly after the BIOS screens asking yout to press CTRL and a couple of keys to configure your boot ROM. If you do not see ths then you may have to buy a card which supports PXE. Hunt around for the option. All of my SiS 900 chipsets are PXE complient.

    I do believe all it is compliant but I do not get the option. What keys do you usually press ?

    What happens is it does the usual POST and then immediately starts loading from RPL-ROM.

    Try disconnecting the network cable. Then it should slow it sdown so you get the option. What type of computer (manufacturer, motherboard etc) is it?

    Re: RIS Problem - XP on 2000 server

    Try just setting 'Boot from other device' as the first boot option and disable the others. You should then see the invitation to configure the NIC when you boot. Hopefully..............

    Re: RIS Problem - XP on 2000 server

    Nope... However I downloaded a boot disk image from www.rom-o-matic.net and it loads up fine till it says searching for server (dhcp) but it doesn't find it. I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track because if I download a rom for a SIS600 instead of my SIS900 it just gives me hex addresses.
