Lowest spec hardware???

I've seen a few people trying to turn off Vista features to get it to run better on lower spec hardware.

Whats the lowest spec hardware that anyone has had Vista usably on (Office, Web browser and such) without lowering functionality too much.

I've had it running pretty well with 128Mb GPU and 1Gb RAM but no less and that was "WITH" Aero turned "ON". Anyone got by with a 64Mb card and no Aero?

Sorry, couldn't help myself! Too childish not to. I've not actually run Vista but maybe the above spec could handle it? Sorry, I'm sure some sensible replies are about to follow ;)

I had it running alright on a 2.2ghz C2D laptop without aero on integrated intel graphics, 1GB ram. Thats the lowest spec that I have experimented on with SP1 though. The beta on the other hand... Got that running on 512mb, but not well when you added in office + av.

I'll have to play with this...it's like XP. I got that running on a P120 with 96mb ram and 1mb graphics. Amused..

Yep, like any software you can get it to run on just about anything. But if you want your users to actually be able to do some work then 2gb ram is an absolute minimum. If you want to start using it for web design or multimedia id recommend atleast 3gb ram.

Luckily ram is cheap as chips now. But unluckily most of us have several hundred computers to buy for, alot of which will be DDR1 which is rather expensive and getting more so as time goes on.

Roll on windows 7.

There's a site somewhere where they had XP running on 24Mb RAM i think.

Works perfectly - no performance issues and can use the internet, office and iTunes ok! :)

Member of staff brought in a computer today and asked us to have a look at it, its Vista Basic running an AMD Sempron and 512mb ram. With intergrated graphics. It works, I haven't tried loading up open office on it on account it takes an age to load IE7 up.

Had it going on an old motherboard with a Geforce 4 MX4000 with no Aero, was and still is comparitively nippy, not as good as my new lappy though.

Installed some early beta on a:
AMD 400Mhz (Intel Equivalent)

Needless to say 10 seconds to open Documents, speaks for itself.

I have run it with a HP DC5750 with 1GB of shared RAM and an AMD Dual Core at 2.20GHz, however even with the fancy Aero effects turned off, it is very sluggish compared to XP.

CMIS would occasionally decide to completely fail to load as well!

Intel integrated graphics, probably only had, at most, 32MB of RAM allocated to it.

Ran decent, only slightly sluggish. Had Aero turned off, but nothing else. Worked for internet and office applications. Didn't have Office 2007 on it, only 2003, so that might have made a difference.
