Re: Vista UAC - User Access Control

Has anyone tried giving remote support to anyone running Vista with UAC enabled?

Half of my usual apps (VNC based) simply appeared and closed tried everything, totally reliant on the remote user to "allow" the remote applications and then reconnect, total nightmare.

Disable UAC and VNC sessions are back to normal operation again.

I have been suffering Vista since 1st beta, I have to have a VM with an XP image ready at all times just to keep things working. Vista is still a year away from full roll out as far as Im concerned but at least with UAC off it can be tolerated.

Re: Vista UAC - User Access Control

I had it off all the time during the beta. Since release in preparation for eventually rolling it out I decided to keep it on and learn to live with it. As an admin I have gotten fed up and disabled it a few times. When you have just installed and your setting up your desktop and drivers its a major PITA but I re-enabled it afterwards and I'd honestly say now that it is a good thing. A little sidebar control to enable and disable it on the fly when you know your about to do something thats gonna spawn a dozen of them. Another solution would be 3 options on the popup. Ok | Cancel | Ok and supress UAC for 5mins. would be great.

I turned UAC off - and have not suffered any ill effects.

However, for those who want it switched off only every now and then, there is a utility called Tweak UAC that will temporarily disable the function without the need to restart the computer.
