We have got our Vista discs, but they are only upgrade ones. That was never a problem before because you could just insert an Xp disc when it asked you to, but these are not even bootable!
Is this normal with the Schools agreement? If so then its going to make imaging a right pain in the arse if we have to install XP each time first. Not to mention I would always prefer a clean install compared to an upgraded one.
What would we need to do to be able to get proper Vista discs?
I know the schools agreement is meant to only be upgrades but we always used to get an XP disc that was a full version

They're not bootable? I thought the vista upgrade dvd was bootable as this is how you get to perform a clean install with the upgrade disk?
Like So....

Where did you get your disks and licenses from? We use Ramesys and all their discs are full versions and bootable even though the licenses are upgrades. In fact, if you ring them, they would send you media out for about £20 per copy.

We were only sent upgrades too - Business, Enterprise and Ultimate.
If you are under the Schools Agreement you should be able to access licensing.microsoft.com using the information supplied with each renewal.
This will allow you download a full bootable version of Vista Business or Vista Enterprise which you can burn to a DVD. No sign of Vista Ultimate though.

I didn't think so either until I saw it as an option under Software Assurance Benefits which you have to opt-in for!

No wonder I didn't spot it with it hidden in the software assurance section. I really like having a schools agreement

Jet, you might want to check with your supplier and enquire why it is not available to you. It's possible that something was missed out when they were finishing up their paperwork.

Just reading up on this, While Vista ultimate can be used if you had SA in place, it can't be obtained in general under a vol license, further to this each copy of ultimate has to be licensed *INDIVIDUALLY* - MAK and KMS keys do not work with Vista Ultimate.
Back to Vista Enterprise for me :P
