Turn on more info on software install.

Anybody know if there is a way to show what software is being installed when its being pushed out via group policy?

On XP you would add the software to the group policy, reboot the pc's that policy controls and it would say "Installing managed software Microsoft Office 2003 Pro" for example.

On vista the software installs, but when its installing it just says "Please wait", giving no information about what its actually doing.

The software installs fine Geoff, my issue is Vista does not display that it is actually installing software like XP would. It just says Please Wait while it is installing.

If it's going to be anywhere, It'll be in the GPOs.

I aint seen anything yet, infact I think a lot of those nice things like Installing Manager Software, running startup scripts etc will now not show due to this new logon screen. It will look very colourful when I get Vista into all my IT rooms being the greeny bluey tinge but I prefer the machines to say whats going on when they are loading as the kids will sit and think hmm its frozen, yoink plug out, and then I get corupt Installs, damaged Windows, HDDs etc etc. Maybe we need LH Server to solve these issues?

    Post Group Policy Fix

I was looking for this same thing because I couldn't get people to stop rebooting their computers when it was trying install managed software.

    I came across this:
    http://www.i-think22.net/archives/20...aged-software/

    Basically there's a setting at:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Verbose vs normal status messages
If you enable this setting you'll get alot more information when starting up and shutting down the computer.

The setting turns on a lot of messages though, not just the "Installing Managed Software..." message. I have been working with Server 2008 a little and it seems that this is the same kind of verbosity I see when Server 2008 starts up (or shuts down).
I don't know how it affects XP since I don't have a lot of XP machine close by to test.
