I have used this software (winsuite desktop management and security software)in its various guises for 5 years and enjoy the ease with which we are able to control multiple student desktops so I am a little peeved that the company who make it have, it seems no intention to produce a compatible version for use with Vista (as of a phone conversation today)
I know we can do all the same things with Group Policies and profiles etc but the iniatial setup is time consuming and needs to be tested thoroughly so if any one out there is using a similiar product to winsuite i would greatly appreciate your views and feedback.
And no we are not planning to move to Vista on our existing computers but any new purchases after the iniatial bedding in of Vista (bug fixes etc) would seem sensibly to use the latest OS (if suitably) especially when we intend to have replaced all curriculum computers within the next 3 years.
I won't go into the whole "why on earth would you use Winsuite these days" argument as you seem to know them already, but what an odd position for them to take. Surely they must mean "at the moment" or else that will be the end of the product.
PS it was a good product in the Windows 98 days.

Yeah I agree but it was product the kids were familiar with and continuity iks important with the low level of IT knowledge with our staff and students
We've got RangerSuite. Although now an RM product, it never used to be!
We've got the core product + RangerRemote. It stems from the 9x days when were forced to use something like it. As Phil said, it keeps continuity and specfically, continuity when we had both 9x and 2k/XP desktops around the place. (9x all gone, thankfully)
Once you've bought into it (quite a large investment) the ongoing mainteance cost is reasonably small and therefore it makes sense to continuing using it for us at least. Yes, the same thing is possible with GPO but Ranger is nice and easy!
