Following on from hacking Home Premium/Ultimate/etc aspiring pirates have cracked Enterprise edition
http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/20...1211000252.htmThe pirates have managed to circumvent this activation by spoofing the KMS server. This is done by downloading a VMware image of the KMS server that you run in order to activate copies of Vista. The files required have been made available on a number of file-sharing networks and has been named the MelindaGates hack.
Microsoft made a (irrelevant) statement in response.
http://www.nforcershq.com/article7193.htmlWe are actively monitoring these types of piracy and counterfeit situations, and will take action on any Key Management Service (KMS) or Multiple Activation Key (MAK) keys that have been reported as stolen or abused. Microsoft will continue to make investments under the Genuine Software Initiative (GSI) and is committed to engineering world-class anti-counterfeiting technologies in order to make piracy harder and protect customers and channel partners from the various risks associated with counterfeit software.
Not surprising, I circulate quite alot in the warez scene and the first hacks for Vista appeared quite a while ago. Hell, one of the guys in the particular warez areas that I look at works for Microsoft in California, (another one of the guys is actually a Dev for Blizzard on WoW hehe)
If microsoft thinks they can stop the pirate versions, I fear they are greatly mistaken
