We have 2 AMD64 servers here running Ubuntu Server (AMD64). Both are LAMP servers. One runs vle.carrhill.lancs.sch.uk and it's uptime is currently 125 days.

That's great, but I mean can I walk into CEX or Game or Gamestation, or pick one up from Tesco?

Y'know, can I play the same thing that my mates are playing? The same thing 80% of other people are playing? Something where most other people I play with won't think www.thinkgeek.com is the greatest online shop?

It's not Linux's fault that game developers don't make their games for Linux. It's possible - UT2004 (and many others) work on both.

Re: Windows Vista or Ubuntu Linux?

Whats wrong with you people? Complaining that their are no games for Linux? Of course there are:

I have had my recent fixes on the following:

    Ascii Text space invaders
    Ascii Pong
    Ascii Pacman
    + Ascii hide the salami

Come on! Theres no games? Of course there are! You don't need an overclocked overpriced Nvidia card to appreciate them either! All you need is 36K ram

no, you can't go into a game shop and buy it for the same reasons you can't go into PC world and buy openoffice - it is free. I'm not pretending Linux is a great gaming platform, it isn't. Its primary role is as a server or workstation - but there are some very good games around for linux and I'm quite happy with them. Ubuntuforums has lists of games that run well or otherwise on linux http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=93

Yeh I know there's quite a few FPS's, iD have always been big fans I know.

It might not be their fault, or anyone fault, but how can you all say Linux is so much better if what you want to do is not supported on it? Just offering alternatives doesn't always cut it!

personally I'd say TCE is a good deal better than half life 2 - not seen crysis.
(half life 2 runs on linux btw - as does WoW, battlefield etc)

That's fair enough, just people always go on about how it's great and to dump Windows, when you can't if it doesn't have what you want.

I don't have anything against Linux, I've used it and I like it, but I always come back to Windows beause it's familiar, simple, compatible.

I like the way with Windows I can download a program and install it.
I don't like the way with Linux I have to download binaries to compile first.
